Eric Tillett: Bringing Practical Solutions and Accountability to the Legislature

For too long, the Virgin Islands has been governed without the political competition needed to hold government accountable. The Republican Party in the Virgin Islands believes voters deserve another voice in the Legislature—one willing to challenge the way things have been done for decades, ask harder questions and offer a different approach to major problems our government still hasn’t fixed.

Eric Tillett is running to provide that voice in the St. Thomas–St. John District.

Tillett was born and raised on St. Thomas and has spent much of his adult life building businesses, managing property and dealing with problems government has struggled to address. He approaches public service as an entrepreneur: identify the problem, understand the numbers, develop a plan and make sure the job actually gets done.

That approach is especially clear in the detailed plans Tillett has developed for issues across the Virgin Islands. His campaign has put forward specific proposals on infrastructure, development and government services, with a level of detail that goes well beyond a few campaign talking points. One example is his plan to address sewage and wastewater across the islands, protecting our reefs and fragile ecosystem while supporting tourism and responsible future development. He also looks at how major private development can help cover the cost of the infrastructure those projects require.

That is the kind of outsider thinking the Virgin Islands needs more of.

For decades, residents have heard promises about infrastructure, utilities, economic opportunity and basic government services. But too many of those problems are still here. Roads deteriorate. Energy costs strain families and businesses. Major projects take years to complete. Young Virgin Islanders too often feel they must leave home to find opportunity.

Across the RPVI ticket, the agenda includes safer streets, schools that answer to parents, greater WAPA accountability, and an economy where families and entrepreneurs can afford to stay and succeed.

Republicans believe changing those outcomes requires changing the political environment that produced them. When one party dominates government for too long, complacency becomes easier and accountability becomes weaker. Competition means legislators have to defend their votes, question spending and answer when government fails.

Tillett will bring a different voice to the Legislature. His campaign is rooted in the belief that the Virgin Islands can work better if our government becomes more transparent and more focused on whether things actually get done. His experience in business and development has shown him firsthand what high costs, unreliable infrastructure and inefficient government do to local businesses and the people trying to build a life here.

This election is not about expecting every Virgin Islander to agree on every issue. It is about making sure there are different voices in the Legislature willing to debate ideas and members willing to challenge business as usual.
